Before the 60-day session ended, Florida lawmakers approved a package of tax breaks that will provide $196 million in additional revenue to the state. This tax relief package includes new income tax credits for hiring interns, donating to charity, and purchasing items that promote independent living. House Bill 7061 passed with a 117-1 vote and is now headed to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ desk. It is sponsored by Rep. Omari Hardy, D-Lake Worth.

House Bill 7061, sponsored by Senator Ana Maria Rodriguez, includes provisions to provide tax relief to businesses and families. It extends the current affordable housing tax credit and creates a permanent sales tax exemption for items that support independent living. It also creates new exemptions for outdoor activities and purchases. Its passage is expected to save businesses and consumers $54.7 million. However, many people do not realize that a few of these provisions are worth the extra money.

During the first week of July, residents and businesses can enjoy a tax vacation during Freedom Week. This holiday includes free admission to state parks, live concerts, and the arts. People can also use their vacation time to visit museums, theaters, cinemas, and other attractions. Fitness facilities and gyms are also exempt from taxation. The estimated savings during the holidays will be $54.7 million. It is best to seek professional legal help if you’re uncertain of what your tax situation is.
