Turkish Cypriot Day of Shame

What a week, what a day, Sun Villas auction postponed, we managed to disrupt the auction, 2 very vocal elderly Turkish Cypriot lady’s started the ball rolling by letting rip at the auctioneers and buyers, (wouldn’t like to get on the wrong side of them), calling them jackals and such like, the majority foreign support added their voices, could not hear a word from the auctioneer, press arrived, buyers did a runner!

So what has happened? An Interior Ministry Under-secretary arrived, spoke to Marian and the press, he suggested that a way forward would be to get engineers out to the Sun Villa site, to measure the whole and assess unused land and properties that have not been sold. A petition could then be presented to the High Court to see if these plots and villas could be sold off to pay the debt as the plot could be divided as one part sold separately, fingers crossed that is what will happen.

The HBPG warned and keep warning that this sort of thing would happen, this is just the tip of the iceberg, it is just amazing to us that the many hundred of foreigners who will soon find themselves in the same position who have mortgages, injunction, loans and other encumbrances on their land could not be bothered to turn up to something that is totally immoral and unjust.

Maybe they believe the Turkish Cypriots care, but apart from those involved how many turned up at the auction? As one of the elder Turkish Cypriot lady’s stated, her people had changed they never used to be like this, its greed have taken them over.

Many of the foreign support (approx 80) were people who had no problems and who again were not involved in the Sun Villas Site, but came as they were disgusted at what was taking place.

So what of the human cost, 12 families lose there homes because of one Turkish Cypriot’s greed, courts that refuse to enforce judgements when they are first made, (in this case 1997), at least one advocate who clearly misled his clients, a legal system which has long ago lost any authority or respect, judges including high court judges, who prolong cases by not ruling. There can be only one reason - to give the offender more time to move their assets or of course, they are related to the offender, or went to school with them. This is a form of prejudice.

Fact - we live in a society that has very little crime (or so we are told).

Fact - there are approximately 280 thousand people live in the TRNC.

Fact - there are courts in every major town approx 5

Fact – cases are taking 3,4, 5, 6 years to reach a decision

Fact - the courts - according to them - cannot keep up with the cases, so much for very little crime!

Some in the expat community say we should keep our mouths shut and allow the criminals and justice system do what they like to us and that we should live with, or forget the criminal acts perpetrated against us. But with every criminal act and every bias decision made by (prejudiced) judges protecting their own – many of whom have numerous cases and judgements outstanding against them, there is a human cost; it is one of misery and despair which not only affects one individual victim but invariably the whole family and in the end society.

How any judges could allow certain Turkish Cypriots to create so many victims, so much misery and despair all to save certain criminals from justice is beyond me. It is a crime not only against the victims but all honest law-abiding individuals in the TRNC and we should all be angry and asking why.

It is no use looking the other way, pretending it is not happening, like many in the TRNC there are going to be many more victims of all nationalities, more heartbreak, misery and despair and if you think it could not happen to you because you’ve got your deeds think again, trust, honour and mutual respect have long left this island.

This is to all the members of the HBPG living in the TRNC and any like minded persons, there will soon be a meeting with Government ministers who will answer questions from expats, we would like you all to be there to ask questions and give the active members some support.

We do not want to be surrounded by the “I’m alright jack” brigade.
